CMC Meets with Sen. McCaskill’s Staff

CMC met with Sen. McCaskill’s staff yesterday to discuss our support for SA 814, the Johanns-Crapo amendment on the definition of swaps, and to petition the Senator for her support of the same when the issue is scheduled to come to the Senate floor for a vote today.  As we had mentioned previously, CMC signed a letter of support on this amendment along with other trade associations.  Unfortunately, Sen. McCaskill’s staff advised CMC that they would recommend to the Senator that she not support this amendment.  Staff in her office is concerned about certain provisions in the amendment and their view is that the amendment will result in further delay of already delayed rulemakings at the CFTC.  However, they agreed to speak with the CFTC about our concerns on the subject.
